We are now two thirds of the way through the 2019 State League Season. With every team in both A and B Grade now having had their second bye. The race for finals positions is heating up, as goal difference is the only separator for positions across two grades.

As always the scores, fixtures, ladders and leading goal scorers can be found on the State League Page.

A Grade

The first match of the round saw Arista take on Boomers. With Arista coming into the match off the bye, while Boomers came in off a victory. In an interesting matchup, where only two players on the court didn’t score. It was Arista who claimed the victory, getting up 24-18. The top scorer for the match was Arista’s Luke Rosie with 7 goals, whilst for Boomers three players all scored 4 goals, with Mark Hamilton, Michael Spencer and Jack Curran reaching that mark.

The second matchup of the round saw Flinders take on Glenelg. Both teams entered the match off of a defeat last time out. In a scary coincidence the final score of this match was the exact same as the first time these two sides met earlier this year. With Glenelg coming away with a 20-15 victory then and now. The main difference this time around was the top scorers for the matchup. With Glenelg’s Patrick Branford top scoring with 7 goals, ahead of Flinders pair Jazz Zulfic and Andrew Hutchesson who both finished with 6 goals apiece.

The A grade ladder sees North on top with 8 wins from their 8 games, 4 points ahead of second placed Arista. Glenelg sits in third, four points behind second and four points ahead of fourth placed Boomers. While Flinders sit fifth, getting closer to their first win of the year.

B Grade

The first matchup of the round saw Boomers take on Arista, with Boomers coming into the match of a victory, whilst Arista had the bye last round. The last time these two sides met Boomers came away with a thrilling one goal victory. This time around there was a little bit more breathing room as Boomers came away with a three goal victory, 15-12. To maintain their place on top of the ladder for another week. The top scorer for the match was Boomers’ Ryan Gartner who recorded 6 goals in the victory. While for Arista, Sharni Lans and Jess Phillips both scored 3 goals apiece.

The second matchup of the round saw Glenelg take on Flinders, with Glenelg coming in off a victory last time out, whilst Flinders come in off a defeat. Last time these two sides met Glenelg controlled the play, recording a 15-5 win. This time around, it was a much tighter affair as Glenelg saw off a vastly improved Flinders, winning 17-10. The top scorer for the match was Flinders’ Jazz Zulfic with 5 goals in the defeat. Whilst for Glenelg it was multiple goal scorers with 3 apiece, with Nick Miller, Tom Brown, Claire Bowler and Tim Miller all reaching the mark.

The B Grade ladder sees two different battles opening up; the race for top spot sees both Boomers and Glenelg sitting with identical records of six wins, one draw and one defeat. With both teams also recording +29 goal difference throughout the year. The battle for third is also tight, with North sitting in third at the time being. With three wins, four losses and a forfeit, on 13 points. Whilst Arista and Flinders are only 1 point behind on 12 points, with both teams recording two wins and six losses so far this season, with goal difference the only separator at the moment.

C Grade

The first matchup of the round saw Arista take on the Cubs, with possibly second place on offer to the victor. Arista came into the round off a victory last time out, whilst the Cubs came in off a defeat. With the previous three meetings between the teams resulting in Arista leading 2 wins to 1. This time around though it was the Cubs who evened up the season series at 2-2. Getting up 11-7 to draw level on match points with Arista, but be just behind on goal difference. The top scorers for the match all scored 3 goals apiece. With Arista duo Sharyn Bungey and Luke McKay, along with Cubs duo Claire Bowler and Liberty Booth all reaching the total.

The second matchup of the round saw the Tigers take on Boomers. With Boomers having won the past two meetings after these teams drew their first encounter of the year. It was Boomers once again who claimed victory in the meeting, maintaining their place on top of the table with a 15-6 victory. With the top scorer for the match Boomers’ Ben Walter leading with 5 goals. Just ahead of Glenelg’s Tim Miller with 4 goals.

The C Grade ladder sees a tight battle for the top three positions, with Boomers currently holding top spot, with seven wins, one draw and two defeats, on 25 points. Three points behind sits Arista ahead of the Cubs by goal difference alone, with 4 goals the difference; both teams enter the final third with six wins and four defeats. In fourth spot sees The Tigers, with one draw and nine defeats so far in the season.
