Round 5 of the 2019 State League season has been completed, with now a third of the season recorded. With each team having played each other at least once, we are in line to see some great Korfball over the rest of the season.

A Grade

The first A Grade game of the round saw Boomers take on Arista, with Boomers coming in off a victory last time out, whilst Arista came in off the Bye. The matchup started evenly, with Boomers scoring the first couple of goals. Before Arista hit back, taking control of the game as they headed into half time up by one goal. The second half saw the game play out similarly to the first with Boomers gaining momentum, before Arista claiming it back along with the victory, 18-16. The top scorers for Arista were Nik Bungey and Zac Marshall with 4 goals. For Boomers, Josh Berney top scored with 4 goals as well.

The second A Grade game saw Glenelg take on Flinders, with both teams coming off a defeat last time out.  The matchup was a even contest throughout, before Glenelg were able to push the margin out late to secure their second victory of the season. Claiming the victory 20-15. The top scorer for the match was Emily Hutchesson, with 6 goals for Glenelg. For Flinders it was Andrew Hutchesson with 5, giving Emily the bragging rights in their first matchup of the season.

A third of the way through the season sees every team having had the bye. With North out on top of the ladder, undefeated after four games. In second we see Arista, with three wins and one defeat. Third sees Glenelg with an even two and two record. In fourth we have Boomers, with one win and three defeats, whilst Flinders are in fifth with four defeats.

B Grade

The first B Grade game of the day saw Arista take on Boomers, with Arista coming in off the bye and Boomers in off a victory last time out. The matchup started out much like the A Grade game. With Boomers coming out and scoring the first couple of goals, before Arista hit back. In what would become a pattern throughout the game, the lead never getting out to any more than 3 goals. The final siren rang and it was Boomers who managed to claim the victory, 18-17. The top scorers for the match all scored 5 goals, with Boomers pair Ali Muirhead and Stefan Scragg along with Arista’s Matilda Hilton.

The second B Grade game saw Flinders take on Glenelg, with Flinders coming in off a defeat last time out. Whilst Glenelg were looking to continue with their undefeated start. Unfortunately for Flinders, Glenelg were on from the first whistle as they controlled the game as they claimed their fourth win of the season in an impressive display claiming a 15-5 win. The top scorer for the match was Glenelg’s Danica Bell with 5 goals, whilst for Flinders it was all individual goal scorers.

A third of the way through the season, sees every team having had the bye once. With Glenelg on top of the ladder with four wins. Second sees Boomers with three wins and one defeat. Third place sees North with two wins and two defeats. Fourth place we have Arista with one win and three defeats and in fifth place we have Flinders with four defeats so far this season.

C Grade

The first C Grade game of the round saw the Glenelg Derby, with the Cubs taking on the Tigers. With both sides coming in off defeats last time out. For the second time this season the Cubs came out and outplayed their elder club mates. Recording a massive 22-10 victory, to secure their third victory of the season, holding on to second place on the ladder. The top scorer for the match was the Cubs’ Alyssa Booth with a superb effort of 6 goals, whilst for the Tigers it was Mitchell Othen with 4 goals.

The second C Grade game saw Arista take on Boomers. With both teams coming into the match off a victory last time out. These two teams have a habit of producing tight affairs, with their first meeting this season a 1-goal game. This time around it was just as intense, with Boomers getting off to a strong first half, going into half time up by 2 goals. The second half saw Arista fight back strongly to even the game up. Before Boomers were able to regain momentum and composure at the end of the game to claim the 14-12 win. The top scorer for the game was Boomers’ Stefan Scragg with 5 goals, whilst for Arista it was Danika Miller with 3 goals.

A third of the way through the season the ladder sees Arista on top with four wins and one defeat. In second we see the Cubs with three wins and two defeats. Third place sees Boomers with two wins, two defeats and a draw. In fourth we see the Tigers, with a draw and four defeats so far in 2019.
