The annual Summer Classic tournament has come and gone once again, and once again it was a very successful day. With six teams competing on the day, each team had a minimum of 5 games, which led to a very busy day for all players involved. As well as the Adelaide teams, it was great to once again welcome a travelling team, with Newcastle making the trek over this year, after Sydney had played in the last couple of iterations. It’s great to see these developing clubs seeking new challenges, and its a welcome change for the Adelaide players, who get to face an opponent they’re not used to seeing week-in, week-out. It’s also fantastic to see clubs taking the opportunity to blood new players, with several of the teams using the Summer Classic to give new recruits their first taste of Korfball. Hopefully we will see these players out at State League in the near future.

Arista again entered two teams, and for the third year running, it was an Arista team who took out the title, with Arista Yellow beating North in the final, after finishing the round-robin games on top. North pushed Arista in the final, with the final score being 11-8, Arista Yellow’s equal-narrowest win of  of the day. Newcastle finished in third, only 2 points behind North. The first match of the day was a draw between North and Newcastle, ultimately proving costly to Newcastle’s chances of playing off in the final. Arista Red finshed in fourth, a single point further behind Newcastle, and only goal difference ahead of fifth placed Glenelg. Flinders propped up the table, unfortunately not picking up any wins, but the matches against more experienced opposition should help them looking towards the State League season. The full results, including the ladder, can be found on the Summer Classic Competition page.

Congratulations to Arista Yellow, and we hope to see everyone back at the same time next year, for what is bound to be another successful tournament.
