The Final Round has come and gone, and now those lucky enough to make finals prepare for what is set up to be a good fortnight of Korfball action.

A Grade

The first game saw Arista take on Boomers, with the game evenly poised after the opening 12 minutes, before Arista were able to put a stop to the Boomers offence and capitalising on their chances in attack to take a lead into the major break. The third quarter started like the first, with the game going goal for goal. Before the final quarter where Arista were able to maintain their lead, with Boomers getting the back back close with few minutes to go before Arista composed and took the game 25-22. For the victors Nik Bungey top scored with 7, for Boomers Brad Marks top scored with 6.

The second game saw North take on Glenelg, looking to keep their undefeated season going. With yet another game, North’s long range shooting was on and they capitalised on their chances in attack to build their lead up with Glenelg matching them early before North ran away with the victory and finish the season on top of the ladder, with a 27-18 win. For North Brendon Nagy and Megan Milde top scored with 7 goals apiece, whilst for Glenelg Daniel Phillips matched them with 7 of his own.

The goal scoring charts saw Daniel Papalia finish the season on top of the table, with 69 goals, ahead of Megan Milde, with 64, and Daniel Phillips late season form sees him finish in third with 56.

This weekend will see the 3rd v 4th playoff match take place in the last timeslot, 4:10pm at the Hub. With North taking on Arista in the Grad Final in a fortnight.

B Grade

The early game saw Glenelg take on North, with Glenelg awarded the victory after a forfeit was issued to North. The game result ended with North on 21 and Glenelg on 17. For Glenelg, Issy Vardas top scored with 7 goals for the match, whilst for North Aaron Sykes top scored with 5.

The second game saw a match with huge ramifications to the final ladder positions, with Flinders taking on Arista, Flinders were looking to claim top spot, whilst Arista were looking for a finals birth. They didn’t disappoint as the match ebbed and flowed with Flinders able to hold onto a mini break of around 3 goals for most of the game, to ultimately record a 22-19 victory and claim top spot on the ladder and direct entry into the Grand Final. Tyson White top scored for Flinders with 6 goals, whilst for Arista Chris Hutchesson scored 5.

The goal scoring charts saw Flinders’ Jaz Zulfic finish the season on top with 57 goals, ahead of Boomers’ Jack Curran with 49, and coming in third was North’s Aaron Sykes on 46.

This weekend will see the Preliminary Final take place in the middle time slot of 2:45 with the winner going on to face Flinders in the Grand Final.

C Grade

The first game saw Arista take on Glenelg. In a tight tussle, where goals were at a premium early on, Arista were able to get a break on Glenelg and they were able to hold into that break as they came away with a 13-10 victory to secure their place in the finals. For Arista, Sharni Lans top scored with 5 goals, whilst for Glenelg John Booth top scored with 3.

The second game saw Boomers take on the Cubs, with the Cubs awarded the victory after a forfeit was issued to Boomers. The end result saw Boomers on 19 to the Cubs 12. In a high scoring match Breanna Smith top scored with 5 for Boomers, whilst Talitha Oweis scored 3 for the Cubs.

The goal scoring charts saw Boomers’ Stefan Scragg finish the season on top with 39 goals, ahead of Flinders’ Joanna Lloyd on 34, with Arista’s James Holland in third with 25.

This weekend will see the Preliminary Final take place in the first time slot of 1:20, with the winner going on to face Flinders in the Grand Final.

 

The Preliminary Final Weekend sees the games played at the Aberfoyle Park Recreation Centre.
