The penultimate round of the 2019 State League season has been completed with a maiden victory for one team. Whilst the race for the finals in two grades heads into the final round.

A Grade

The first matchup of the round saw North take on Glenelg. With North looking to keep their unbeaten record alive. It would be the case as North finished their regular season, with the bye in the final round. Claiming a 22-13 victory. Whilst for Glenelg the defeat sees them remain in third spot on the ladder, with a matchup against Flinders next time out. The top scorer for the match was North’s Megan Papalia, with 6 goals in the win. Whilst for Glenelg Daniel Phillips led the team with 5 goals.

The second matchup of the round saw Flinders take on Boomers. With these teams having met twice before this season, with Boomers having won both encounters. This time around it was a different story as Flinders were able to claim their maiden A Grade victory, winning 20-14. The result doesn’t change the sides places on the ladder with Boomers remaining in fourth and Flinders in fifth place. The top scorers for the match were Flinders duo Andrew Hutchesson and Tyson White along with Boomers’ Mark Hamilton all with 5 goals.

B Grade

The first matchup of the round saw Boomers take on Flinders. With Boomers looking to go back on top of the table with a victory. In a strong start to the game Boomers controlled momentum. As they were able to build a strong lead going into half time. The second half played out with Boomers continuing to build the lead, with all eight players who took to the court scoring multiple goals. Ultimately claiming a 22-8 victory to move back on to the top of the table with one round to go. The top scorers for the match were Boomers duo Mark Hamilton and Stefan Scragg with 4 goals apiece, whilst for Flinders Erin Cocks led with 3 goals.

The second matchup of the round saw North take on Glenelg. With North looking to win to keep their finals hopes alive, with a bye next week. Whilst for Glenelg a win would see them go equal top of the table. In an impressive effort, North were able to claim a huge 25-10 victory to stay in third place after this round. The top scorer for the match was North’s Aaron Sykes with 6 goals, whilst for Glenelg Thomas Brown led with 4 goals.

C Grade

The first matchup of the round saw the Cubs take on the Tigers. With the Cubs looking for a win to keep their chances of making the finals alive. Whilst the Tigers were looking for their first win of the year. In a low scoring round for C grade, the Cubs were able to record a 9-6 victory to remain in third place, behind second place Arista on goal difference. The top scorer for the match was the Cubs Alyssa Booth, with 4 goals in the win. Whilst for the Tigers Lee Jones scored 3.

The second match of the round saw Boomers take on Arista. With a victory for Boomers seeing them finish on top of the table. Whilst a win for Arista would see maintain a stronghold on second place. In another low scoring matchup, it was Boomers who were able to keep their noses ahead as they went on top claim a 9-4 victory. With Boomers’ Ben Walter top scoring with 4 goals. Whilst for Arista Justin Schultz top scored with 2.

Next Weekend sees a full competition bye, with Fathers Day. We then resume on September 8th with games once again at Heathfield High School.

With several matchups determining finals places, with spots up for grabs in both B and C grades. A Grade sees Boomers taking on Arista and Glenelg playing Flinders. B Grade sees Flinders and Glenelg face off, whilst Arista meet Boomers. Finally in C Grade The Tigers meet Arista, whilst the Cubs take on Boomers, with both matches having finals implications.
